Spaghetti House has a new menu, full of dishes perfect for sharing on one of those long, hot summer nights we're all hoping for.

When we dined, even though it was bucketing with rain outside, we were transported for a couple of hours to the Mediterranean after stepping through the doors of the restaurant.

It was decorated with vintage Italian adverts and pictures from across Italy, and many of the restaurant staff came from Italy, so were very helpful in recommending dishes to us.

My partner Matt and I shared a schiacciata allaAglio to start with - a pizza bread with tomato, garlic and rosemary - which was delicious, although fairly filling. I've had similar dishes in Italian restaurants before, but always with tomato sauce rather than fresh tomatoes on top, so this version made a pleasant change.

For the main, I tucked into a seafood risotto, with a great variety of mussels, prawns and fish, complemented perfectly with a large portion of rice. Matt enjoyed a pasta dish with a tomato sauce, topped off with a layer of mouth-watering melted mozzerrella on top.

We washed it all down with a couple of glasses of white wine each, chosen for us to match the menu by the waiter.

For dessert, we shared a creme caramel decorated with a nest of spun sugar on top, the creaminess contrasting with the crunchiness of the sugar. There was just the right amount of dessert to share as we were both feeling pretty full.

The waiter brought over a measure of the lemon liqueur Limoncello as a digestif for us both, which was the perfect way to end the meal.
