What nicer way to spend a sunny early evening than to step into a quaint and authentic French restaurant for a fine-quality dinner.

And here’s the good news, at The Little French Restaurant in Earl’s Court you can really spoil and indulge yourself without breaking the bank.

You may be thinking in London? Really? But at this hidden gem you can get a three course meal for £12.50, with plenty of options to choose from.

The quality of the food is definitely not compromised due to the price either.

I found the night ran smoothly and slowly, which was a positive relief from the city hustle and bustle.

The staff left a big enough gap between offering the next course and were friendly and warm when they came over.

For my three courses I had French Onion Soup, which is traditional and home made. The portion was huge and it was rich and full of flavour without being too heavy. I thought the touch of cheese at the top was just the right amount and not too much bread came with it which was good so the focus was on the taste of the soup.

I had Salmon Escalope ‘En Papillote’, salmon parcel with chopped fresh dill, lemon juice garlic and spices, baked in the oven, as my main meal, with a side of vegetables for £1.65.

It was the first time I’ve had fish presented to me in a fish shaped foil wrap which was interesting, but every part of the meal was cooked with attention. The dill complemented the salmon really nicely, and the lemon added to the freshness on the plate.

For dessert I chose apple pie with ice cream which was light, and closed everything off well.

My plus one had Mushrooms ‘Stiltonnaise’, mushrooms marinated in lemon garlic and spices grilled with stilton cheese, to start.

Although there was no real criticism of the dish, there was also no real praise.

She said it was fine but didn’t leave too much of an impact on her.

On the other hand, her main meal, the Sirloin Steak, grilled and served with spicy smoked pepper sauce, horseradish butter, £15.95 (not in the set menu) received rave reviews.

The meat was tender and cooked perfectly. She is quite the steak connoisseur and identified this as a great one.

My friend finished her meal off with chocolate mousse which came in a cute little pot.

The restaurant itself is tucked away from the main road, small and carefully decorated, light and friendly.

I would definitely go again and encourage everyone to give it a try.
