Hats created by a Fulham-based designer are being worn by actress Kate Winslet and other actors in a new film.

The Oscar-winning star is wearing a hat designed by Jane Taylor in A Little Chaos, a movie set in the court of King Louis XIV and also starring Alan Rickman, who directs the comedy-drama.

As well as designing the hat for Ms Winslet’s character, Sabine De Barra, Ms Taylor has also made hats for supporting characters in the film which reflected the rich, ostentatious French period style of the film.

She said: “I was delighted when I was approached by the wardrobe team to design a hat for Kate. We were sent inspirational images of paintings from this period and asked to create an overly flamboyant hat.”

It took Ms Taylor a week to make the hat. It is made from perforated straw, hand-dyed with vintage ostrich and vintage bird of paradise feathers, and hand-dyed lace with the brim trimmed with vintage braiding.

The film was released on Friday (April 17), and Ms Taylor’s hat also features prominently through its trailer.

Previously, Ms Taylor, who runs has seen her hats worn by royalty and high-profile celebrities.

Her shop, Jane Taylor Millinery, is in Filmer Road, Fulham.
