Strangers joined hands at Trafalgar Square on Saturday (November 14) in a moving vigil to remember the victims of the Paris attacks.

From around 9pm, the French national anthem La Marseillaise could be heard bellowing from the square as people held up signs such as "Je Suis Paris."

Then in a particularly moving gesture, tens of thousands of people from a range of nations joined hands with those next to them as Trafalgar Square fell silent.

The night would drift beautifully from silence to French chanting, as one person tirelessly waved the French flag high.

A sea of mobile phone lights could then be seen from up high, lighting up Trafalgar Square.
