A 28-year-old motorist who jumped out of his car and smashed a stranger repeatedly over the head with a steering lock has been sentenced.

Nivethan Thuraisingham received 18 months’ jail, suspended for two years, at Harrow Crown Court on Friday, September 27, for the unprovoked and violent attack he launched on pedestiran Asif Sabir in Princes Avenue, Kingsbury.

The 18-year-old victim was walking to a relative’s house on May 27 when a passing yellow Subaru car stopped, the court heard.

The driver, Thuraisingham, who was unknown to him, got out and hit him over the head several times with a metal steering lock.

Mr Sabir was left with cuts to his head and Thursaisinham drove off. The victim reached his relative’s house before calling the London Ambulance Service and the police and giving them a description of the suspect vehicle.

Thuraisingham’s Subaru was spotted by officers travelling on the M1 shortly afterwards and he was pulled over and arrested.

The 28-year-old, of Perth Road, Ilford, Essex, admitted wounding with intent at the crown court on August 28.

He was sentenced to the suspended term of imprisonment and a 12-month supervision order with a requirement to complete 170 hours of unpaid work, and was ordered to pay Mr Sabir £1,200 compensation.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Karen Beck, of Brent CID, said: “This was a nasty assault that occurred on a vulnerable victim and I would like to thank the victim for his continued support in this matter.

“Brent Police will not tolerate violent attacks of this nature. We shall relentlessly pursue offenders and ensure that they are brought to justice.”
