There is widespread disruption across Harrow after the storm sweeping the country took at least 90 trees down.

Council officers have been out since 6am working on cleaning up the destruction, and commuters were left in the lurch as trains from Harrow and Wealdstone station halted and the underground lines were down due to debris on the track between Harrow on the Hill and Uxbridge.

Council leader Susan Hall (Conservative) said: “Our cleaning teams and tree specialists have been out since 6am but these reports are coming in thick and fast – we are working flat out but people should be braced for considerable travel headaches."

Brent Council are advising everyone to call 0208 937 5050 if there are any major incidents, however none have been reported.

A spokeswoman told the Observer: "The priority is keeping the main roads open and clear. We have had reports of about 70 trees falling down and expect that to rise throughout the day."

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) have reported many incidents across the capital.

Director of operations Peter McKenna said: "It is proving to be a busy morning for us for storm-related injuries. We would encourage anyone to consider if their journey is entirely necessary.

“Our motorbike and cycle responders who work outdoors are not on duty today but instead working from vehicles. We would encourage others not to use motorbikes or bicycles - as they are particularly vulnerable in high cross winds.

“Remember a storm of this severity has the potential to uproot trees and damage buildings so if walking, take great care and look out for flying debris.”
