DETAILS of life in 2014 – from the price of a pint of milk to photos of the recent floods – have been left for discovery by generations to come.

On Sunday, children at St Mary’s Church, in Church Hill, put together two time capsules which were buried under new floor boards, which are being replaced because of woodworm.

The unfortunate and costly infestation gave the young church-goers the exciting opportunity to put together items and images representing life today for people in the future to enjoy.

The price of basic goods such as bread, milk and stamps were listed and Sunday’s newspaper was added, as well as a copy of Harefield Month, the village magazine.

The names of all the village’s shops were written down and added to the capsules, with pieces of work completed by Sunday School children, which explain their lives, homes and role within the church.

The service sheet and pamphlet from that day’s communion service were also buried as well as one of each coin in circulation today.

The infected floor boards were burned in a large bonfire in the church grounds.
