A meeting has been organised following the death of the father-of-three after an alleged fight at a block of Hayes flats.

Neighbours of Paul Thrower, who died on Friday night after suffering stab wounds, will meet tomorrow evening (Tuesday) to talk to police officers and community representatives to discuss the anti-social behaviour and reported drug use around St Dunstans Close.

Neighbours say the area has been plagued by gangs hanging around drinking alcohol and smoking and dealing drugs for some years.

Father-of-two, Jasvinder Singh, 43, lives in adjacent Cranford Drive, said he is 'very worried' about safety.

"The police have been here quite a few times about all the people hanging around," he said. "It gives people a lot of worry. When you walk near the flats at night it's scary. But what can you do? I feel helpless."

His wife Mandip Singh, 39, said she heard 'a lot of shouting' on Friday night around 9pm, when the stabbing is thought to have taken place.

"There were lots of people here and police cars everywhere," she said. "We are looking for somewhere else to live now because of the problems. It's getting worse. We don't let our children walk past those flats."

Detective Chief Superintendent Steve Kershaw, borough commander for Hillingdon, said: "I would like to reassure the residents of the Hayes area that we will continue to provide a visible presence in the area and that the fear of crime must be addressed as much as preventing or addressing any specific act of crime."

The meeting is at 7pm at The Crane Community centre in Fuller Way, Hayes. Borough Commander, Superintendent Steve Kershaw will attend and local ward councillors, the area housing officer and community safety service manager will represent the council.
