Nine workers at Heathrow have been arrested on suspicion of theft.

Two of the employees were at work, and seven were at their homes, as officers from the Met's Aviation Security Command (SO18) arrested them today (Wednesday) in a "pre-planned, intelligence-led" operation.

They are suspected of taking 'personal property' at the airport, in relation to 43 alleged thefts between May 22 and September 2 this year, say police.

Six men, aged 23, 29, 32 38, 47 and 53; and three women aged 24, 29 and 63 are in custody at a west London police station.

Searches are being carried out at several locations of interest.

Superintendent Martin Hendy, from the Met's SO18, said: "Police at Heathrow work together with our partners at the airport to ensure that any allegations of criminal activity are robustly investigated to ensure the travelling public and staff at the airport enjoy a safe and secure environment."
