Oyster card readers are back up and running after a technical glitch gave people a morning of free travel.

On Saturday (December 2), Southeastern Railway tweeted to say that Transport for London (TFL) were working to fix technical issues involving Oyster card readers.

Soon after, they tweeted to say that Oyster card readers were not working and that if anyone had purchased a paper ticket, they could contact TFL for a refund.

The technical error meant that thousands of commuters were able to travel on the London transport network for free.

But Southeastern railway tweeted at 9.52am to say that Oyster card readers had started to work again, but if people still found them to not be working, they should still buy a ticket and claim back their money.

The malfunction came on the same day that fare prices were set to go up by an average of 1.1 per cent.
