Police have warned people in Ealing about a grey Ford Transit van driver who is allegedly selling faulty telivisions.

According to Met police , officers have been receiving a series of phones calls from people who have been sold cheap televisions from the "chubby" man.

But police said following purchase the televisions are found to not work.

The force said he is "very convincing" and maybe be working alone or with an accomplice.

In an attempt to establish trust, the man is said to tell buyers to note down the registration number of his van and mobile number.

He is white, aged between 25 and 30, of chubby build and has short black hair and an Irish accent.

Detective Constable Nishitani, of Ealing CID, said: "The old adage 'if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is' is never more apt than in these cases.

"Many people are being scammed into buying faulty televisions in the pretence that they are in full working order.

"The seller may state that he is working as a courier for well known electrical companies, but this is not true.

"Can I warn people not to buy any goods in these circumstances no matter how convincing the seller sounds and, if safe to do so, call police immediately."

Anyone with information in relation to these types of incidents is asked to call Ealing CID via 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or online .
