A panel beater has been locked up for eight years after he repeatedly struck a man with a metal pole on the High Street in Feltham.

Graham Law, of no fixed address, was convicted of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and sentenced last Friday (March 14).

The 52-year-old who worked as a mechanic repairing damaged bodywork on vehicles had charged towards victim Mark May and struck him over the head and back at least three times, before speeding off in a car, on April 19 last year.

In the aftermath of the attack, Mr May who is in his late 40s and knew his attacker suffered bruising to his torso, and a cut to the back of his head which needed stitches.

During a five day trial, judges at Kingston Crown Court, heard how Mr May who is in his late 40s had been walking along the high street, when Law, who was in a car with an 18-year-old pulled up beside him.

A heated dispute took place between the young man, who had stepped out of the car, and Mr May.

They then parted ways but around 20 minutes later, Law, armed with a metal pole ran towards Mr May and began beating him.

Hounslow CID launched an investigation and Law, who has family ties to the area, was arrested two days after the incident. He was charged with GBH on July 28, 2013.

Acting Detective Sergeant Andy Jackson said: "This was an unprovoked and violent attack on the victim who was out walking on the street.

"The long prison sentence passed is testimony to the serious nature of the attack, during which Mr May did not retaliate.

"The Metropolitan Police Service are committed to tackling violent crime and will robustly pursue justice for victims of such offences."

A 19-year-old man was arrested on July 4, 2013 on suspicion of GBH but was released with no further action.
