Retired footballer and global icon David Beckham made a surprise visit to Hayes.

Beckham, nicknamed "Golden Balls", dropped into the Goals Soccer Centre in Springfield Road, Hayes, on Sunday last week to watch a football tournament his youngest son Cruz was playing in, before signing autographs and posing for pictures.

Goals Hayes general manager Jehad Najdi said: "We have had quite a few celebrities pass through, and he was one of the most humble. He was very approachable."

Beckham, 38, hung up his boots in May after a brief spell at Paris St Germain. The dead-ball specialist made his name as one of Manchester United's golden generation of youth team players, before stints at Real Madrid and then LA Galaxy.

Last month, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton was at the Goals Centre in Victoria Road, Ruislip, for a private function.
