Changes to Hanwell Carnival in Ealing , including an increase of total area by 50%, have been announced by its organisers ahead of next summer.

For the first time in its history, the rear as well as the main section of Elthorne Park will be used, increasing the total area by around 50%.

The change comes as Elthorne Park High School undergoes building works, but the extra space has been welcomed by those on the organising team.

Dan Giarraputo, responsible for carnival’s health and safety, said: “This will make everything more manageable and comfortable, it’s been quite a squeeze to get everything in sometimes.”

More than 20,000 people attended the 2015 Carnival , and it is hoped that the extra space will allow for more next year.

When the weather is good, the carnival has been known to bring in over 30,000 revellers, as police estimate it did in 2013.

The changes mean that the main stages, along with the beer, food and commercial stalls, will move to the rear of the park, in the large fields with the deer sculpture.

The fairground, children’s attractions, dog show, acoustic tent, community stage and charity stalls will all remain in the main section of the park, around the bandstand.

And now the organising team have sent out an appeal for volunteers to get involved.

A message read: “The team needs lots of help and ideas. Carnival is run by the community for the community, so people are needed to help plan and organise.”

Business sponsorship is also being sought, which will give businesses a large profile while keeping the costs down for festival goers.

Hanwell Carnival will take place on Saturday 18 June 2016.
