An Ealing pub took part in an attempt to break the world record for number of people taking part in a series of pub quiz's.

The Star & Anchor pub, in Uxbridge Road, Ealing, raised £400 for the Ealing Food Bank by taking part in the event on Sunday (February 7).

Organised by voluntary charity Pubaid, the quiz saw 60 people pass through the doors to be questioned by quiz master and Ealing North MP Stephen Pound.

Manager and landlord Ash Marsh, who has lived above the pub since he began working there five years ago, said: "The team at the Star and Anchor are so grateful to Steve, and the local Labour Party , for supporting our World's Biggest Pub Quiz record attempt."

"We are really pleased to have been able to give back to the community and have fun at the same time."

The current record stands at 2,679 participants taking part in 39 different pubs.

According to Mr Pound, questions supplied by Pubaid ranged from the legal age of drinking to the difference between keg beer and cask ale.

The MP, who has represented Ealing North since 1997, was also tasked with singing "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads before asking them to guess the band and song.

He said: "It was the best time I have had in a pub in years.

"Ealing Food Bank fed nearly 4,000 people in our borough last year.

"We have to do everything we can to support the good work these organisations do, which is why I was very pleased to support Ash and The Star and Anchor in their charity pub quiz."

Mr Pound also had a stint behind the bar, where he said he had "never been so popular".

According to Pubaid, 193 pubs took part but it will not be clear for a few months yet if the number of participants has broken the previous record.
