A police officer attached to the Ealing Borough has been charged with child sex offences.

PC James Evans was charged with six counts of sexual activity with a child following an investigation by Met police's Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command.

The 25-year-old was charged on Friday (July 1) and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on August 1.

The Met Police has faced a number of issues with officers in recent weeks. Last Tuesday (June 28), Ealing PC Matthew Holloway was sentenced for sending malicious texts and social media messages to his victim.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty a Southwark Crown Court and was given a three year conditional discharge and made to pay £1,200 in costs and £500 compensation.

He had been charged with malicious communications in November last year and initially pleaded not guilty in January this year, before changing his plea last month.

PC Holloway will remain on restricted duties but a misconduct process will soon take place.
