A rogue homeowner in Ealing has been punished for secretly building a hidden house fit with a bathroom and kitchen.

On February 22 Ealing Council 's demolition team removed a detached outhouse at the rear of the house in Beechwood Gardens, Park Royal.

Officers had found an unauthorised outhouse with a concealed entrance at the back of the residential property in the borough of Ealing.

The demolition followed the owner's failure to comply with an enforcement notice requiring them to remove the illegal dwelling.

The Beechwood Gardens outhouse was built without permission

Councillor Ranjit Dheer, cabinet member for safety, culture and community services, said: "Planning regulations are in place to protect our residents and communities and it is unlawful to build a self-contained house without planning permission.

"We will take robust action against property owners who seek to outwit the planning system by concealing their activities.

"This outbuilding was illegally constructed and rightly demolished, and the owner will pay the cost for deliberately flouting the law."

The house was demolished once the council got wind of it

Council officers had discovered a concealed entrance to the outhouse behind what appeared to be a garage door in July, 2014, whilst on a routine check of new buildings in the Park Royal area.

Upon entering the building officers found the fully self-contained house with a bathroom and kitchen, which did not have planning permission.

The homeowner was given an enforcement notice ordering the dwelling which led to the owner submitting a planning application to retain the building in September 2015.

Only rubble remains of the miniature house

The application was refused and the building was demolished following a final warning.

A bill was sent to the owner for the cost of the works.
