Kevin O'Connor has been compared to Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher by Brentford boss Mark Warburton.

Carragher made 737 appearances for the Premier League title chasers between 1997 and 2013, while Gerrard is currently on 666 after making his Liverpool debut in 1998.

Loyalty: Steven Gerrard

O'Connor, meanwhile, reached the 500 mark for Brentford in Saturday's win over Stevenage, having first pulled on the red and white stripes in 1999, and in terms of loyalty, Warburton sees plenty of similarities.

He said: “People talk about Gerrard and Carragher and what they mean to Liverpool, but if you're talking about staying loyal to one club, and what players mean to certain clubs, Kevin is right up there with Brentford.

One club man: Jamie Carragher

"Today was all abut recognising all he has done for the club over the years. But let's be clear abut one thing – he is not finished yet – we are not dusting him down and putting him in a museum just yet. Kevin has still got a big role to play for us.

“He has a great knowledge of the game and sets his own high standards. He oozes professionalism on and off the pitch, and if the young players have any brains, they will look at him to see how they should conduct themselves.”
