An alcoholic has admitted trying to steal a bottle of vodka from an Iceland supermarket.

Lloyd Nolan, of Pound Lane, Willesden, stole the bottle, valued at £7.50, on October 4, but was caught and apprehended there and then at the Iceland store, in Harlesden High Street.

Nolan was due to appear at Hendon Magistrates’ Court on October 24, but the 47-year-old man failed to show up, at which point a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Nolan admitted the theft at the same court on Tuesday.

Mrs Hall, defending, told the court: “Mr Nolan has a very severe alcohol problem and he says it is about time he addresses it.”

Sentencing, District Judge Denis Brennan said that Nolan had a ‘terrible’ record of offending, including six offences this year, and therefore a custodial sentence was required.
